In 1986 it was THE TIME: My girl friend Luzia (later my wife and now the ex-wife) and I started on May 20 in Frankfurt, flew to Toronta and after a 3 1/2-days-ride we landed in Florida. There we spent nearly 6 weeks, after visiting some rallyes and friends in Louisana and Texas. It was in July, when we had our only fixed date on the whole trip: WING DING in Santa Barabara (California) on July . After that we rode up to the Expo'86 in Vancover and drove back through a lot of parcs, back to San Diego, where we picked up Luzia's new Limited Edition-1200-GoldWing. So we rode back to the South-east, later on to the Honda faxtory in Marysville/Ohio, before we left Toronto: The two machines were sitting in the freight room of the 747-Jumbo, opperated by Wardair. It was Oct 26 when we landed in Frankfurt: A trip of 44'000 kms on my Aspencade GoldWing. Mehr dazu findest Du hier [2'080 KB]

That's Nancy - 73 years old, on the way to Alaska Nancy was a older woman, one of the female Wingers: What was very special, she bought her GoldWing on Feb 6 in 1985, the same day like me!!! She was just leaving California to drive with friends, men both older than 65 years old but still younger then she was, to Alaska, pulling a trailor with a tent. In the age people are becoming more comfortable, carrying the tent on a trailer instead of setting it up every night ... When we came back top Florida, Paul a retired military pilot told us the whole story of her: She was a crazy woman all life. After the end of the second world-war she was flying all military airplane back to the States which no of the men would ever done, because the air-planes have been in such a bad condition. So the fact of starting to ride motorcycles was similar to that story. She learned to drive a motorcycle when she was 65 years old on a 500 Silver Wing!

We visited the original founder (couple) of GWRRA, Paul & Sam Hildebrand. It was a very good time we had staying together - Switzerland is just a small country with, in that time approx. 400 members, in the USA they spoke about 70-80'000 worldwide in these days. We attended the hough WING DING the second time after 1981, it became much bigger. It was very nice to meet so many GoldWingers, spend some time in their homes and learn to understand, what is the live of a multi-millioneer or of a truck-driver, living in a mobil home.

... turned out to be a real battle: This motorcycle didn't come to Europe and so I had to go through all tests to immatriculate it in Switzerland: Emission, noise etc. But it was it worth! Luzia was driving 7'000 miles in the states, then we have it driven on many trips, but it was a real hough bike for such a small woman. So, in 2003, when we got in divorce, it was clear that I would it take over (after driving it from 2000, when I droped my Aspencade on the race-track in the rain and it was repaired by a good friend with used parts) and from the money Luzia bought a brandnew Honda Transalp XL650. In Switzerland, as I know, there are only 3 Limiteds and probably a douzen Special Edition (year 1986-model) |

On our trip in 1986 we bought another GoldWing, Model 85 Limited Edition. This bike was not exportet, so it is one of a kind in Switzerland! Since 2003, we are in divorce (but still good friends) it is my third 4-cylindre-GoldWing

Just before we flew back to Europe, we visited the canadian Zurich: It is named like our city in Switzerland were we live. It was fun to go to the post office and send a card «from Zurich/Canada to Zürich/Switzerland»!

Mit einem Klick aufs Bild zum REISEBERICHT 6301 KB Persönliches Nummernschild - dies ist im «Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten» eine reine Sache des Geldes: So fuhren wir monatelang mit der Papiernummer (und den Zulassungspapieren im Gepäck) durch die Staaten, ohne dass wir deswegen jemals angehalten oder Fragen dazu gestellt worden wären: Im Gegensatz zu meinem Schweizer ZH-Schild, welches überall für Aufmerksamkeit - auch bei der Polizei - sorgte.
